News Article Web Presence of Mainland Actors
(Original
Chinese Version)
Star Paper (Xing Bao), 17 Feb 2002
Wang Yi-Tu
Zhao Wen Zhuo is second to none as far as popularity on the web pages is
concerned. Through Yahoo, Kimo and Open Find search engines, be it personal
webpages or discussion board indicators, Zhao Wen Zhuo is number one. From Hua
Mulan to Wind and Cloud (Storm Riders TV series), even though his productions
are not without failures, he remains the number one choice among the Taiwanese.
Fans not only form Zhao Wen Zhuo Web Alliance, but also stand guard seriously in
various major discussion boards to argue for him. One example being the fierce
arguments between those who can't stand Zhao Wen Zhuo's fake hair in Wind and
Cloud and his fans. And when his new drama serial, Romance of the Book and
Sword, where he plays Chen Jia Luo, begins production, they were to first to
post news of it on the web. It seems that his asking price of 90 thousand
remninbis per episode is not too far-fetched.
Another young martial arts star,
Wu Jing, Jet Li's junior from
Beijing Wushu Team, who was coached by Wu Bin and discovered by Yuen Wo Ping and
Cheung Sing Yim, is showing far stronger influence on the internet than
other people. While it is generally felt that Wu Jing's doesn't
enjoy as much eminence, the sheer number of his Frand sites are more than
sufficient to stand up against Zhao Wen Zhuo. However, in terms of discussions,
as there aren't any talks about him outside his productions, they never quite
become a big hit. No matter what, there are many fans who look upon Wu Jing as
Leon Lai and Sun Xing Zong combined and indubitably, his latent charm cannot be
overlooked. (Wu Jing's next project is a movie targeted at US audience, and the
production will be in full swing in March. The movie is tentatively called
Drunken Monkey and is a production by Hong Kong's .)
Next is Chen Dao Ming. He is that Kindly Eighth Prince, that Hu Xue Yan, that
Emperor
Kangxi and Emperor Qin-Shi in Zhang Yimou's Hero. He is considered by many Mainland China artistes as God of Acting. He
has a strong following on the web, and these fans are knowledgeable, discerning
and are of older ages. Their websites mainly serve as a form of communication,
are not flowery yet comes packed with content. The fans discuss mostly about his
shows. It appears that his drama charisma and web presence are united as one.
Yet another person whose name deserves a mention is Jet Li, who has embarked upon an
international voyage. Basically, it would impossible to lump him and the typical
Mainland artistes together. Jet Li fan sites come from all corners of the world,
while his Taiwan fans are but a minute portion of his international fans. In
terms of global prominence of Mainland artistes, there is simply no comparison
between Zhao Wen Zhuo and Jet Li.
