The Flood

Wu Jing phoned me early in the morning today, mainly to send his regards to his frands (and fans.) He realised that he had not been keeping in touch with us for quite a while and missed us so. He is currently in a village in Zhejiang doing Cheung Sing Yim's Martial Arts King of Shaolin. It is a very remote, backward place, bereft of basic amenities - not even a telephone can be found. The production members are residing in a martial arts school with very austere layout (Actually, it's practically barren). Wu Jing even had to procure the bulbs, tables and chairs himself. It is very taxing for Wu Jing to act in this serial, and he only gets less than three hours of sleep per day.

Near the filming location is a large dam at the back of the mountain. One day, there was an announcement that the water was going to burst through the dam and someone immediately informed the people downstream to disperse as fast as possible. Should the water burst through, the whole village would be flooded. Back then, the production crew and cast members were halfway through the shooting of the series, but owing to the pressing condition, everyone left their equipment and sets behind and, without further ado,  hysterically scuttled away.

Later, the caretakers of the dam opened another floodgate to release the flooding water, thereby nipping a tragedy in the bud. When the crew decided to head back to retrieve their equipment, the police had cordoned off the area on the account that danger was not quite over. After some negotiation, the police relented and let crew return for their equipment. Thankfully, the place did not actually become flooded and the crew did not suffer any losses. But the incident left Wu Jing with a rather deep impression. It was estimated that the production team is going to stay in Zhejiang for more than a month before moving on to another location.

The above are the main issues of my talk with Wu Jing. Strictly speaking, he was the one doing all the speaking, I was only listening to him speak. As my mind wasn't very clear then, I didn't think of what to ask him excepting about his health. While filming Martial Arts King of Shaolin is very laborious, Wu Jing is in good state health. It is a great relief to know that he has recovered from his injury; He sprained his ankle while doing Emperor Qian-Long, Fang De and Miao Cui Hua.
