Wu Jing's second TV series. Again, a cast comprising mainly martial artists for the key roles. A serious production with epic storyline, though pacing is rather slow at times. Stressing on authenticity of martial arts, with every fist coming into contact with the flesh, the fight scenes here are almost completely free from wire-harnesses. The action here is more straight-forward, a mite old school and not especially fanciful. On the other hand, you can still expect well-choreographed fight sequences and wonderful martial arts displays.
Plot Synopsis:
A prince from Tang Territory, Li Shi-Min (Fan Siu Wong), is sent to spy on its neighbouring state, the Wang Territory, where its people lead an oppressive life under the iron-handed rule of the despotic king, Wang Shi-Cong, and the tyrannical general, Wang Ren-Zhe (Chin Siu Ho). However, his brothers, who are rivalling against Prince Li to succeed the throne, purposely causes the news of his presence to leak out, and King Wang orders Wang Ren-Zhe to capture the spy.
Miracle Kicks Zhang and his son, Xiao Hu (Wu Jing), help to shelter Prince Li. However, Wang Ren-Zhe and his subordinates ransack the entire town and discover Prince Li. Miracle Kicks Zhang sacrifices himself to enable his son and Prince Li to escape. The bereaved Xiao Hu seeks refuge from Shaolin Temple while Prince Li returns to Tang Territory.
Xiao Hu's is put into a real quandary in his attempt to learn Shaolin kungfu from Reverend Tan Zong (Yu Hai) in order to avenge for his father's death. He has to be ordained as a monk in order to train in Shaolin martial arts. However, a monk is not allowed to kill. Moreover, his relation with the shepherd lady, Bai Wu-Xia (Pan Hao Hao, a Taichi practioner), who lives nearby, prevents him from becoming a true monk. |
