Nothing particularly noteworthy about the martial arts in this series but it comes with a well-written plot that is rousing, touching yet interspersed with humour. At the behest of a friend, Wu Jing agreed to appear in this show as a guest star. His role in the series is rather short but quite sensational. However, his character can be done without, since the storyline is not much affected, with or without his character. On the other hand, once he makes his entrance in the series, he becomes the central character until his exit. This is the series where Wu Jing made a great leap forward in acting skills. More mature, convincing and debonair than ever. And the adorable kid, Ding Dang, is a riot in the serial..

Plot Synopsis:

A loyal official offends the fatuous King, Yang Guang, and is decapitated. His daughter, Liu Xun (Yu Fei-Hong), attempts to assassinate the emperor but fails. Under the instigation of the scheming minister, Yu-wen Hua-Ji (Lin Li Xiang), the emperor comes up with a despicable way to torment, humiliate her. He forces her to marry the worst beggar of the country, Er-Dan (Ng Man Tat), and after she gives birth, makes her suffer  the anguish of being separated from her kid, Dan-Dan (Ding Dang). A few years later, Dan-Dan grows up to be a terror in the imperial court who is up to all manner of larks. The emperor can't stand the kid anymore and sends his beggar father to fetch him. Eventually, Liu Xun escapes from the palace with the help of her fellow disciple. They head towards Wa-Gang Fortress with the palace guards hot in their pursuit. Bei Yuan-Qing (Wu Jing) comes to their rescue and wards off the attacks. Bei Yuan-Qing falls in love with her but appears to treat her frivolously.
