-- Legend of Bruce Lee --
Legend of Bruce Lee TV series, which was filmed last year from May to September, traces the life of Bruce Lee from when he's a kid, growing up being a martial arts fanatic, and getting involved in fights, and being pursued by gangs and forced to leave Hong Kong, and meeting Linda Emery as well as creating a storm in America, and starting a film career. And as he gets more famous, Bruce Lee faces challenges from many martial artists from the West and East alike. Yet, he remains a legend who is never defeated.
40-part Legend of Bruce Lee TV series, set for release this summer, is directed by Li Qi Wen, with Ma Zhong Xuan and Eric Chen as the martial arts directors. The cast includes Chan Kwok Kwan, Yu Cheng Hui, Wang Luo Yong, Zhou Zhou, Gai Ke, Li Yuan, Bian Xiao Xiao, Michelle Lang, Mark Dacascos, Eric Chen, Gary Daniels, Michael Jai White, Ray Park, Tim Storms.
Li Yuan plays an arrogant brat and Bruce Lee's lifelong rival Sallow Lad, one who is constantly challenging Bruce Lee, played by Chan Kwok-kwan, who's arguably the closest Bruce Lee lookalike, to countless duels throughout his life, but is never able to win him, yet would never yield to him. Both are of great influences on each other and study under different teachers. It's due to losing to Sallow Lad initially that leads Bruce Lee to training under Wing Chun master Yip Man, played here by wushu maestro Yu Cheng Hui.
Later on, Sallow Lad becomes the heir to Wang Fist and vows to defeat Bruce Lee. However, he stills loses eventually. It's after Bruce Lee's death that Sallow Lad becomes awakened, that he truly understands Bruce Lee's martial arts philosophy and its essence, proclaiming that Bruce Lee was unequivocally a true master of martial arts, no one could defeat him.
Li Yuan was very excited when he was given the role, especially when there are many great martial arts stars in Mainland. Because of his rugged looks, and based on his resume, director Li Wen Qi told Li Yuan that he was more suitable for this role than Wu Jing. Li Yuan appears a few times in the 7 min trailer, most notably around 1:45 in which he displays excellent traditional forms against Chan Kwok Kwan in a blindfold duel on a beam.
