-- The Last Dragon: Donnie Yen -- He has been touted as the “Last Dragon” – the last of a dying breed of martial artists-cum-actors to come out of Hong Kong. But unlike Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen is seen as the rightful successor to the original dragon, Bruce Lee. Much like the late Lee, Yen also took it upon himself to spread the word on Chinese martial arts and elevate Hong Kong action films to new heights. Upon closer inspection, you will find that Yen does share some similarities with his idol Lee. Both went to America from Hong Kong and, after establishing themselves there, returned to Hong Kong to work. -- Wing Chun -- Wing Chun TV series has begun production recently in Hengdian. Nicholas Tse, who plays the spoilt brat Leung Bik, says that he does martial arts productions mainly because of his love for kung fu. Apparently, his training has paid off, for the actors are all quite impressed of his skills, even Sammy Hung who plays his enemy says, "I think that Nicholas Tse fights better than me. He is talented, and has been training for quite a long time. I didn't train much with my father when young, and have only learned a little martial arts after I have grown up, but it's already too late." Sammo Hung says that he accepted the project mainly to support his son Sammy Hung, who plays the lead villain. Besides, he's taking the opportunity to reunite with his fellow classmate Yuen Biao to create another classic. Yuen Biao, who is also glad to be working with his "Big Brother" Sammo Hung again, says that basically, he is playing the same character Leung Tsan as his 81's classic The Prodigal Son. However, he was someone else's son in that movie while this time round, he plays Nicholas Tse's father. Netease, Tom

-- Let's Steal Together -- Production of 《双子神偷》 Let's Steal Together, directed by Kong Tao Hoi, has begun in mid July. Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi are playing twin sisters who are thieves and who do not have the same looks. Gillian Chung, who has to handle a series of action scenes since the first day of the shoot, is worried that she might have difficulties dealing with them since she didn't have time to prepare for the action scenes beforehand due to her busy schedule. While Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi regret not being able to work with Tian Liang, they're glad to work with martial arts stars Sammo Hung and Wu Jing. The script has already been amended to include more challenging martial arts scenes for Sammo Hung and Wu Jing. Moreover, there will be some exciting square ups between the two. Wenwei Po, Chengdu Daily On Friday, July 14, Wu Jing's managers Paco Wong and Syllina went to meet him on the set of Let's Steal Together in Guangzhou. -- Iron Triangle -- 《铁三角》 Iron Triangle (tentative), the movie to be directed by Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and Johnnie To, will begin production at the end of July. Tsui Hark will take the lead and shoot the opening one-third of the movie. The cast includes Simon Yam, Louis Koo, Sun Hong Lei and Kelly Lin Hsi Lei. The story might be about a few men who, being in dire financial straits and facing the extreme stress from the society and their families, pin their hopes on getting a windfall. Unexpectedly, when they are casually talking about pecuniary problems, a mysterious man sitting next to them hands them a treasure map. However, to find out the exact location of the treasure, they have to solve layers after layers of riddles... this is the portion that Tsui Hark will be filming. How the plot will develop will be handled by Ringo Lam who will begin filming two months after Tsui Hark has wrapped up while Johnnie To will sum up the movie - again, two months after Ringo Lam has wrapped up. While the three directors will work with their own crew, they are believed to be able to achieve a consistent look and feel across all three portions of the movie, as having entered into the showbiz about the same time and been good friends for many years, they know very well of each other's personalities. The movie does not have a fixed script and the storyline will be written according to the imagination of each director. Neither of them would interfere with each other's work, they would only come together to do post-production. The Beijing News, Shanghai Afternoon Post

As the script is not yet out, they haven't decided on whom to cast as main villain(s) and the female lead(s). Mandarin Films Distribution's action blockbuster "Dragon Tiger Gate" has received remarkable publicity way before its general release. It has earned the Hong Kong film industry much recognition when one of the movie's props, a punching bag entered the Guinness World Records for being "The World's Largest Punching Bag". This is also the first entry to the Guinness World Records ever made by a Hong Kong movie.
To celebrate this meaningful event, Mandarin Films Chairman Mr Raymond Wong has invited VIPs from the parliament as well as the film industry, along with the action choreographer cum leading cast Mr Donnie Yen, and other leading casts Mr Nicholas Tse and Mr Shawn Yue to witness the commemoration ceremony.
The punching bag was tailor-made for the film's villain "Shibumi" who uses it for his martial arts practice. Due to the punching bag's weight and size, the movie producer used more than 10 personnel and 6 thick ropes to move it. In one incident, the three main cast had also called for 17 personnel holding each other by the hands, to encircle the punching bag. 225 packets of sand were required to fill up the punching bag. CRI
Donnie Yen says, "When filming, we were thinking, what we could do that would set Shibumi's abilities apart from everyone else. We've spent a great deal of effort on the props and the sets. As the movie is a comics adaptation, it gives us more latitude for exaggeration, we could afford to let our imaginations run wild. So, we created this giant sandbag. It was merely on the spur of moment, for the fun of it, that we submitted it. We didn't expect to actually make it to the Guinness World Records." Wing Chun is based on 1981's kungfu film The Prodigal Son, which starred Yuen Biao, Sammo Hung, Lam Ching Ying, and Billy Chan. He arrives in Hong Kong and meets the mischievous Uncle Wah (Sammo Hung), a martial descendant of Wing Chun, by chance, and inadvertently picks up Wing Chun.
