-- Talking With Jet Li -- Q: Jackie mentioned you in his diary and talked about how long it took for the two of you to be able to work together. How do you feel about finally getting a chance to work with Jackie? A: It has been thirty years since I first saw Jackie in Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow. It was about 1978 or 1979. When I saw him, I thought Jackie was fabulous and very cool. I first met him in 1985 and we became friends. In 1994, he told me a story idea that he had for a movie. That was the first time we talked about making a movie together, but in the end it didn’t work out. In 2000 I had dinner with Jackie in America and we talked again about making a movie together. We were so close to succeeding at that time because the production company had already paid a million dollars to the screenwriter to write a script. However, that also never happened... -- Forbidden Kingdom -- Between Jackie Chan and Jet Li, who is the better fighter? "Definitely Brother Jackie Chan is better," Jet Li told the media. "My acting fee for The Forbidden Kingdom is just one-tenth of his." But Jackie Chan's answer, in a post on his blog, was Jet Li. The two gongfu kings have been in China since last month making their first movie together, the Hollywood production The Forbidden Kingdom. Yesterday, they held court at a press conference in Hengdian, eastern China. Both Jackie Chan, 53, and Jet Li, 44, said their on-screen duels were the most enjoyable ones they had shot in more than a decade, reported Sina. Jackie Chan said, "Just one fight scene would take 12 days to shoot. Before a shoot, we would say to each other, let's be slower, slower. Once the fighting started, we couldn't control ourselves, we would fight faster and faster." Their duels went by in such a quick blur, the playback had to be set a a lower speed so the moves could be seen, said Jet Li. Even Yuen Wo Ping said that they were too fast. Jackie Chan, a Peking opera student-turned-stuntman-turned-actor, also said on his blog that with martial arts champion Jet Li, he felt the rush he used to have fighting with actors Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, who were trained in the same Peking opera school. The Forbidden Kingdom is about an American teenager's journey to ancient mythical China. Chinese actresses Liu Yifei and Li Bingbing co-star in it. Yesterday, drector Rob Minkoff declined to confirm talk that the movie is the first of a trilogy. Li Bingbing gave the game away, however. Asked about her character, she said: "Can't tell too much. We have to shoot a sequel." Straits Times Plot: An American kid Jason (Michael Angarano) who accidentally acquires the golden cudgel travels through time to ancient China. There, he learns of a prophecy: Someone from the West would return the golden cudgel to the owner and release the Monkey God Sun Wu Kong, who has been imprisoned for 500 years by Jade Warlord (Ngai Sing) who is under Jade Emperor. Along the way, Jason meets three persons who travel with and protect him: Lu Yan (Jackie Chan), a master of Drunken Fist, Golden Sparrow (Liu Yifei), who is ever ready for vengeance, and Silent Monk (Jet Li), who is reticent, mysterious yet powerful. They are being hunted by assassins led by White Hair Demoness (Li Bing Bing), who is sent by Jade War Lord. Sina

-- Painted Skin Remake -- Painted Skin remake, a joint-production between China, Hong Kong and Singapore studios, will be directed by Wilson Yip and produced by Andy Chin Wing Keung, and Donnie Yen agrees to join what was touted as the new contemporary horror fantasy action romance hybrid at the Shanghai Film Festival as he has had several fruitful collaborations with Wilson Yip and believes that it will give him breakthrough. While there will be abundant use of special effects in the movie, Donnie Yen and the director have reached an agreement in which action scenes involving him will be on the authentic side and will not be overwhelmed by special effects. However, Donnie Yen has requested not to be the action director this time round, as he'd like to concentrate as an actor, and his entire career as an action star has taken a toll on his physical well-being. He says that it'd be 2 to 3 years before his lifespan as an action star is up, after which to he would switch to directing. The two female leads have not been determined. Shooting begins in around October. Donnie Yen reveals that the story is set in late Yuen Dynasty, at the time when demons and devils roam free. A fairy Shui Mei Ling who killed her lover 100 years ago turned into a demon, and constantly needs the heart and skin of man to maintain her beauty. As her time for reincarnation draws near, her last victim Wang Er Sheng turns out to be a descendant of the lover she killed, while his brother Wang Er Lang (Donnie Yen) is a ghostbusting master who is highly skilled, brave and smart. -- Forbidden Kingdom -- Under the persuasion of the director Rob Minkoff, the initially reluctant Ngai Sing is joining Forbidden Kingdom. When the director talked to Ngai Sing in Hong Kong, he took in Ngai Sing's suggestions and gave the character Ngai Sing would be playing more depth and human touch; and looking up to Yuen Wo Ping as his benefactor, and wishing to work with both Jet Li and Jackie Chan, Ngai Sing eventually relented. -- Interviewing Ninja Director Godfrey Ho -- With the development of the Internet and the growing exchange of information, the name Godfrey Ho has acquired a cult status in action-movie fan circles. To the extent that the Hong Kong director became an almost mythical figure, suspected to be the real person behind many pseudonyms or bogus credits. Time has come to terminate the growing number of rumours about him (including a now dead website which included a fake interview with Godfrey) and let the man talk for himself. We hope this interview will shed a new light on the real Mr. Godfrey Ho: a typical Hong Kong director whose wits only equal his great kindness. HK Cinemagic >>More<<

-- Iron Monkey Sequel -- One of the projects said to be revealed at Cannes Films Festival was Iron Monkey sequel/remake (or Man in Iron Mask), to be directed by Yuen Wo Ping. Andy Lau is expected to play one of the 2 male leads in this romantic kung fu film, while the female lead might go to Jeon Do Yeon or another Korean actress. Yuen Wo Ping has been preparing for this HK$300 million work since the completion of Fearless and is very particular about the martial arts sequences. Iron Monkey sequel will be set in Manchu dynasty, and will employ new filming techniques that Yuen Wo Ping picked up in Hollywood. There might be generous amount of special effects in this movie which might imitate some Spiderman movements, such as scaling the walls in order to break into the mansions of the rich and help the impoverished. Other possible Yuen Wo Ping projects include 《侠女》 (Heroine/A Touch of Zen) and 《擂台》 (The Arena). Shanghai Afternoon Post
