-- Tai Chi --
One of TVB's heavyweight dramas of the year, Tai Chi, shot in HD in exotic locales of Yunnan, begins airing on HK TVB Jade station on February 25. While this isn't Zhao Wen Zhuo's final work, he says that he'd be focusing his career on the film industry after Tai Chi, and he'd also work more behind the camera.
Zhao Wen Zhuo, who's also behind the martial arts choreography of Tai Chi TV series, hopes to share his inference and insights on martial arts through Tai Chi, "I hope to show the audience what Taichi is, many people do not understand it very well, such as whether Taichi is an effective means of combat. Taichi is a superior internal style of martial arts, many wushu techniques, such as joint-locks were derived from Taichi. Above all, it's a form of philosophy, an approach to life, to survival." Nanfang Daily
Plot: Orphan Wu Ma (Zhao Wen Zhuo) grows up in the mountain, being adopted by his mentor who teaches him Tai Chi. Being abandoned by his parents, he's filled with animosity towards the world. To rid Wu Ma of his feelings of inequities and resentment, his mentor sacrifices himself.
To repay his mentor, and to fulfil his father's wish to glorify wushu, Wu Ma seeks the highest level of attainment in Tai Chi. He challenges the strongest sect's leader Duan Xiao Xing (Raymond Lam) to a duel, only to be defeated. So, he sees defeating Duan Xiao Xing as his ultimate goal in life. Moreover, because of a girl and an ambitious Southern exponent Lu Qiu Ao (Kwok Jing Hung), the two inevitably get into more fights.
And the same time, the gap between Wu Ma and his confidante Sang Qing (Melissa Ng) widens as he walks closer towards achieving his goal. Sina

Director Rob Cohen has updated The Mummy 3 blog with progress of post-production. At the moment, the film clocks 2 hrs 5 minutes of running time and they are working on further refining the cut. There're still lots of work to be done on visual f/x. It will have the first studio screening on February 28. So far, those studio executives who have seen a big part of the film are pretty stoked. Jet Li, who dropped by the editing room recently, was quite pleased by the parts that Rob Cohen showed him. A teaser trailer is going to be out in a month.

-- Blu-ray the Winner --
February 18, 2008 — Sony has triumphed once again. The company that has until now held control of the dominant audio format, "Red Book" CD, and the dominant high-resolution audio format, SACD, will now dominate high-resolution video as well with its Blu-ray technology.
On Tuesday February 19, Toshiba announced that it will no longer develop, manufacture, or market HD DVD players and recorders. "We concluded that a swift decision would be best," Toshiba President Atsutoshi Nishida told the press at Toshiba's company office in Tokyo.
Nishida ascribed Toshiba's abdication to Warner Bros. Entertainment's January decision that the entertainment giant would abandon HD DVD, and only release high-definition movies in Blu-ray format. Warner had been the only remaining Hollywood studio releasing high-definition video in both HD DVD and Blu-ray formats. "They had tremendous impact," Nishida said. "If we had continued, that would have created problems for consumers, and we simply had no chance to win." Stereophile >>More<<
