In May this year, Paco Wong was appointed the chairman of Gold Typhoon, Hong Kong division, and be put mainly in charge of filmmaking, switching from a music producer to a fulltime movie producer. Paco Wing says that it has been his dream to make movies, and with the blooming film industry in Mainland, it's too good a chance to be missed.
"Basically, I'm eying three film genres, first is teen romance, we can produce 2 to 3 films each year; next is traditional Hong Kong comedy, this would depend on whether we have suitable director and script; and finally, martial arts film, but this will be more time consuming, so I intend to produce at least one film per year. These are the areas I'm more comfortable with. My ultimate goal is to produce big-budget films, and hope to achieve that within three years." says Paco Wong.
Paco Wong's first two works as a full-fledged movie producer are the release of teen action film Martial Spirit directed by Kou Zhan Wen and filming of Love Expert by director Patrick Kong, that Shaw Brothers is co-producing, starring Kay Tse, Raymond Lam, Sammy Leung, later this year. Light-Transcending Pandora's Box is currently undergoing production in Guangzhou (video) and, despite some similarities, director Jeffrey Lau clarifies that he won't repeat what he has done previously: Light-Transcending Pandora's Box is a completely different story from Chinese Odyssey.
In fact, it's closer to Eagle Shooting Hero in that it's a laugh-out-loud nonsensical comedy throughout the entire film, with romance being sidelined. Light-Transcending Pandora's Box is a burlesque on Red Cliff, much as what Eagle Shooting Hero is to the original Jin Yong novel.

Both Wilson Yip's Ip Man 2 and Wong Kar Wai's The Great Master are slated for production next month. Budgeted at 100m yuan, Ip Man 2 traces Yip Man's life as he arrives in Hong Kong. Raymond Wong reveals that Donnie Yen's pay has doubled since the first film, commanding around 15m to 20m yuan. Ip Man 3 is currently in the process of being written, and it will have bigger focus on Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee casting call is concluding soon, and 12-year old 潘润康 Pan Run Kang (video) from Harbin, who not resembles Bruce Lee but is also trained in martial arts, stands a very good chance of playing the child Bruce Lee.
Huang Xiao Ming will join the film as Sammo Hung's disciple, while, this time around, To Yu Hang returns and takes on another role - Donnie Yen's disciple. The dispute between the disciples of Hung Gar and Wing Chun leads to their masters' eventual confrontation.
According to Yip Chun, production of Wong Kar Wai's The Great Master is expected to begin "on schedule", as Tony Leung's arm fracture won't affect or delay filming.
Young Ip Man/Ip Man the Prequel (unrelated), which explores the early parts of Yip Man's life, is expected to begin production in November, with Herman Yau directing, and tentatively, To Yu Hang would be playing the eponymous kungfu master, while Yip Chun would be making his debut as Leung Bik. -- 14 Blades -- Donnie Yen, who's currently filming 14 Blades in Yinchuan, has a scene in which he gets to flaunt his fabulous 6-pack abs, that director Daniel Lee especially arranged for him. For the sake of this scene, Donnie Yen's been on diet and working out since 2 months ago. Donnie Yen says that 14 Blades has the most fights among his recent works and is the most taxing as well. The more he fights, the more thrilled he is. He will be fighting various opponents practically throughout the film, with Ku Huen Chiu providing the choreography.
