Fan Siu Wong on Being Nominated For Best Support Actor Award

To Fan Siu Wong, it's an honour for kungfu stars to gain acceptance for their acting, "Being a martial arts star, and everyone would just peer at my action scenes. I've been in this line for more than 20 years, I've always worked very hard, and hope that the audience would notice that I can act too, apart from fighting."

Would Fan Siu Wong would do arthouse films? He laments, "I don't think there's much chance, given that martial arts are my forte, as well as my main draw."

In the original Ip Man film, Lam Ka Tung and Fan Siu Wong were killed in the end, but when it hit the Mainland theatres, their endings did not survive in the hands of Mainland scissorshands. Yet this turns out to be a blessing in disguise for them, for due to their indistinct endings, Fan Siu Wong and Lam Ka Tung are resurrected in Ip Man sequel.

Fan Siu Wong winks, "Xing Yu who played Martial Zealot Lin walked up to the director and asked if he could be in the sequel, but the director frowned, 'No, you can't, you're finished off by the Japanese, remember?' It drove him up the wall, hahaha."

In Forbidden City Cop, Fan Siu Wong shed his usual image to play the main villain Eunuch Cao, "You find it strange, eh? Actually, I'm looking forward to it, I have to wear lipstick, and do feminine hand sign orchid fingers (a way of holding the thumb and middle finger together in while keeping the other fingers outstretched)."

This is the third time Fan Siu Wong has worked Big S Barbie Hsu, their previous two collaborations being Connected and Future X-Cops, "I think it's fate that brings us together, this is our third collaboration, and the third time I'm bashing up Big S. We're very familiar with each other now, and she would often praise 'You're so great!', or call me Candy Candy whenever she sees me."

Fan Siu Wong explains coyly, "Big S says I fight very well, but am still so congenial, and hence Candy Candy, hahaha"
