The film is about a highly disciplined martial arts practitioner Wu Yue, the heir of Stone Skill, "advising" Wei Yu Hai, the undisputed champion of martial arts in Mt Tai, against terrorizing the region.
From the outset, Tao Ming Xi has set out to create Taishan Kungfu a bare-bones kungfu film with wide shot, long takes, with little or no wires, and one that shows kungfu as it is, without special effects. And from the looks of some fight montage on Huang Guan Bao's blog, where Wei Yuhai shows utterly exemplary skills, he has well succeeded.
Tao Ming Xi has recently finished a Sanda film 《勇者无惧》 and cop film 《铁血警魂之卧槽马》 and is already planning his next action film which will have a much larger budget.
TV martial arts star Wu Yue is appearing in more films, and has recently participated in the filming of Little Big Soldier and Looking for Jackie Chan. He has a few works in the pipeline, including Dong Hai Chuan; and a TV series on Guangxi martial arts master Liang Tian Zhu (1877-1972), to be directed by Xiong Xin Xin, who has just finished filming Dennis Law's Bad Blood.
According to the producer, the Taishan franchise is planned as a trilogy comprising 《泰山功夫》 Taishan Kungfu, 《泰山石敢当》 Shi Gan Dang of Taishan and 《泰山夺宝》 Raiding Treasures in Taishan. The second film Shi Gan Dang of Taishan would begin production in spring 2010, and Sammo Hung is being roped in to direct.
