Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa to Collaborate in 2010?

Recently, Raymond Wong has stepped down as the chairman of Mandarin Films to set up his own film studio which is teaming up with Mainland investors to produce a modern actioner at around HK$150m in mid 2010. The film will be directed by Ringo Lam. Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa are being invited to star in the film and they would have a series of fights.

Raymond Wong hopes to unite the two international screen giants despite the high fee of US$3m (HK$23.4m) commanded by Tony Jaa, "I'll talk about the new firm at a later date. It'd be great to have to the two appear in the same film, but I'll only talk about it when things are finalised."

Donnie Yen's currently filming Wilson Yip's Ip Man 2 with Sammo Hung, Fan Siu Wong and Huang Xiao Ming. He recently fainted on the set due to fever and over-exhaustion. He has been discharged from hospital and would resume filming in a day or two. 21cn

Wow, it is the great news of the two famous action stars will be working in the same film in 2010 and I hope this movie will be happening and for my idea, it must be great, if my idol Donnie Yen is a main leading actor. Thanks heaven, I'm looking forward to getting more news on this one. Cheers.

It remains to be seen how it would turn out. Things look sketchy right now. Donnie Yen is more likely to be involved given his recent collaborations with Raymond Wong. But it would be great if Tony Jaa would join as well.

Raymond Wong says he has got in touch with Tony Jaa, who expresses interest in the collaboration, but it needs more planning.

And his new firm Pegasus, set up to groom his son Edmond, is signing a 7-pic deal with Louis Koo at HK$60m, their first collaboration being All's Well, Ends Wells Too 2010. Raymond Wong's still a shareholder at Mandarin, just that he's relinquished his duties as the chairman.

According to Netease, a studio in Shenzhen, known in Chinese as 深圳映象星光文化传播机构, says they'll be shooting a 100m yuan film 《急先锋》 Daring Vanguard (tentative) starring Donnie Yen, Wentworth Miller, Song Hye Gyo and Tony Jaa. The film will see Donnie Yen and Tony Jaa going toe-to-toe with each other on various occasions. They had intended to begin production this year, but Donnie Yen's schedule is fully packed, and the script is still being worked on, they hope to start shooting by July 2010 or so.

The article did not mention if this film's related to the one Raymond Wong is planning.

Donnie Yen, at China MTV Awards ceremony, says that he will be very busy in 2010 as well, with a number of big projects on hand, but can't divulge anything right now.

As it turns out, Daring Vanguard is an army/war film conceived by director Stanley Tong, (and it has nothing to do with Donnie Yen - Tony Jaa collaboration by Raymond Wong) according to Sina. Stanley Tong has denied the casting rumours, saying that the script is yet to be finished.

However, he did broach the subject with Donnie Yen, who expressed interest, and would decide after reading the script. He hopes to finalise casting by end of January 2010 and begins production at end of 2010 for a summer release the following year.
