The assassins they face are two very, very experienced, skilful bounty hunters from Middle East. Compared to the four detectives, the assassins are very heavily armed. But the detectives have an advantage in timing, terrains, and their convictions in upholding justice.
Director Gao Qun Shu is planning The Fantastic Four Detectives as a franchise with the sequels seeing the four travelling to other locales in China, taking on all kinds of perilous tasks and cracking all manners of unresolved cases.
Duan Yi Hong, Ni Da Hong, Wu Jing and Zhang Li are playing the title characters "Leopard" Yue Lu Xiang, "Tibetan Mastiff" He Jian Dong, "Goatherd" Yang Xiao Ming and "Yak" Han Dong Dong respectively. Francis Ng and Yu Nan will play the male and female professional bounty hunters while Charlie Yeung plays Francis Ng's girlfriend.
Rather than relying too much on stunt doubles and editing, director Gao Qun Shu hopes the actors would do their own stunts as much as possible, and they were sent for training before production began.
"While we could come up with many impressive stunts performed by doubles, the audience would be able to spot them. No matter how good the editing is, the moves wouldn't be coherent. We're after coherency in the action. And the gunplay wouldn't be like those big Hollywood movies that often show the bombastic effects of bullets strafing all the place. It must fit within the current criteria in Mainland, the guns used are what our cops are using today." elaborates Gao Qun Shu.
The action will have some logic, such as limited bullets. The four detectives venturing into the plains won't have unlimited supply of bullets, the bullets in their guns will run out after a number of rounds. So, each bullet is very precious and each shot fired will have a purpose, as well as its result and effects.
