On 9 July, Legend of Shaolin Kungfu director Du Xiao, joined by cast members Bao Guo An, Ji Chun Hua, Xie Miao, Sun Hui Ning, attended a chat organised by Sina, whereby they shared their experiences on the set of the 40-part TV series.

A 12-minute trailer to the upcoming Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2, starring Yuen Biao, Li Yuan, Xie Miao, Leung Kar Yan, Ji Chun Hua, Xu Xiang Dong, Sun Hui Ning, Wu Ma, etc. was also shown then and may now be viewed on Sina.

Based on the trailer, which is interspersed with excerpts from the original from 8th minute onwards, Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2 looks to be of bigger scale and even more epic. However, being an unfinished product, it's too early to tell if the martial arts scenes would live up to expectations of the original.

Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2 is currently in post-production with a targeted release by early 2009.

PapaJohns website has been updated with four behind the scenes featurettes, some of which are already available on the web - Yang Soldiers (Stuntmen showcase), Special Visual Effects, Film Scoring and A Look Inside.

In A Look Inside, there are a few extra milliseconds worth of footage of Wu Jing making an assassination attempt on Jet Li between 1:47 to 1:50, and also more glimpses of Michelle Yeoh, who has recently set up her own talent agency, in action.

Mummy 3 Full Theatrical Trailer

Mummy 3 theatrical trailer is available at any of the following sites: Rob Cohen Mummy Blog, Papa Johns, Rope of Silicon.

(Wu Jing appears for a split second at around 2:01 - after Jet Li's introduction - in a similar scene as the previous trailer.)

The film is still in post production, with 196 out of 949 visual effects shots remaining to be completed. The film's music, composed by Randy Edelman and performed by London Symphony Orchestra, was recorded in London.

Behind-the-scenes featurettes are expected to be out on June 30. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opens in theatres on August 1.

Ong Bak 2 Promo Reel

Twitch has just released the Ong Bak 2 trailer that was shown recently at Cannes Film Festival in May. Ong Bak 2, showcasing Tony Jaa in his directorial debut, was shot late last year and is expected to be released late this year at the earliest. Featuring a wide variety of martial arts, this looks extremely promising, if somewhat violent, with choreography being taken to the next level for a Tony Jaa film.

On the other hand, it's painful and sad to see the elephants got stomped on by people doing stunts on them, and hopefully the animals weren't mistreated or harmed during filming. And in Chinese films, the poor horses are often tripped while galloping at high speed, and might have been hurt badly due to the impact of the fall (if they weren't using mattresses for the horses) or their legs running into ropes all of sudden. Shouldn't all these stunts and tricks whatsoever be done away with or be done using CGIs to avoid harming the animals, especially when there is no assurance on the matter, as opposed to Hollywood productions?

Ong Bak 2, a sequel in name only, moves the narrative back in time and stars Tony Jaa as a young man saved from execution by a group of global martial artists as a boy who has since trained in every one of their arts in an attempt to fuse them all into one master martial art. Poster: Mtime

Tsui Siu Ming Set to Bring Back Traditional Kungfu with Duo Biao

《夺标》 Duo Biao, co-produced by Sundream and Huayi Brothers, directed by Tsui Siu Ming, has wrapped up after over two months of filming. The martial arts film is slated for release this autumn.

Duo Biao is set in 1936 when China sent 69 athletes to take part in Berlin Olympics. At the same time 9 wushu team members also performed there. While China didn't do very well back then, her wushu performance greatly impressed the Westerners. And it was then that Chinese wushu was spread throughout the world. Tsu Siu Ming hopes to show the spirit and culture of wushu through this film, with emphasis on realistic and detailed portrayal of traditional martial arts.

Mummy 3 Trailer

The Mummy 3 trailer has been unveiled and may be viewed online on Yahoo, MSN, or IESB.

In the third instalment of The Mummy directed by Rob Cohen, Jet Li plays a ruthless ancient Chinese emperor, previously entombed, together with his army, in terra cotta clay by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh), that has been awakened and is going to take over the world and enslave the entire human race. Can Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) and his son Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) stop him?

Wu Jing, making a cameo as one who makes an assassination attempt on the emperor, appears for a split second at around 1:24 to 1:25 (or alternatively 1:33 to 1:34) in the trailer fighting Jet Li right after the latter was introduced.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opens in theatres on August 1, 2008.

Visiting the Set of Grandmaster Yip Man

On May 8, the press was granted a visit to the set of Grand Master Yip Man on a Shanghai soundstage, where filming of Butterfly Lovers/Butterfly Swords, starring Wu Zun and Charlene Choi as the re-incarnations of the star-cross lovers, with choreography by Ching Siu Tung, is also going on nearby.

They were filming a scene whereby Yip Man (Donnie Yen) goes shopping with his wife Zhang Yong Cheng (Lynn Hung) and son Yip Chun (Li Ze) in the bustling streets of Foshan. However, owing to unexpected drizzle, filming was affected. At one end of a street is the congregation of all kind of martial arts schools. The set will be altered at a later stage to give a worn-down, grim and dismal look following Japanese invasion and occupation.

Gordon Lam plays constable Li Zhao and while enforcing his duty, he inevitably comes into conflicts with Yip Man. It's Li Zhao's duty as a constable to ensure law and order, but those martial arts practitioners are constantly taking on each other. Thus, they are a perennial threat to public security as well as a headache to the police force. In other words, Gordon Lam's character per se may be a wet blanket to the audience for potentially disrupting any matches.

During the press conference, director Wilson Yip explains the reasons for focusing on Yip Man's life in between the 1930s to 1940s.

As Yip Man came from an affluent family, he could afford the time and energy to engross himself in the studies and research of martial arts. He did not have the cares of the world on his shoulders, was not particularly concerned about anything around him. He's a refined, well-cultivated person.

But at the age of 30, Yip Man's family underwent severe changes. At that time, Foshan fell to the Japanese. His tranquil and quiet life was shattered, his family became impoverished, and he was at his lowest ebb. It's at this point that Yip Man began to realise to importance of his family and his friends, and he started to take a completely different outlook and perception.

Out of love for the people as well as his continual and dawning realisation of the essence of wushu, Yip Man gradually snapped out of the limitations as a martial arts fanatic, and amidst countless battles and struggles without any ego, took on the new onus of restoring the flag of the nation.

"To me, this period marks a significant turning point in his life, at the same time, it is a detailed portrayal of the values of Yip Man wushu spirit, as such, our movie is based largely on this portion of his life." explains Wilson Yip. Sohu | Photos: TheFirst.cn, MTime

In the meantime, She Ain't Mean, another work directed by Tsui Hark, is wrapping up towards the end of this month. Tsui Hark says that in order to return Kwak Jae Young's favour for writing She Ain't Mean, he'd write a script for him too.

Lu Yan is like the Drunken Master in his carefree take on life and his drinking habit. When he encounters Jason and reluctantly becomes his bodyguard, escort and kungfu teacher, the never serious Lu Yan shows his martial arts skills and his relentless honor and humor. Lu Yan bears strong character resemblance to a few of the Eight Immortals as according to the Chinese Taoist legends.

As for the old Chinese pawnshop owner named Old Hop, whose shop Jason frequents back in Boston, Jackie Chan has this to say, "Those were my favorite scenes. I was imitating Marlon Brando in The Godfather - in both the way he talks and walks but added in a little Jackie Chan style." Chan was never told Old Hop's age so he continued to interpret the character as he saw fit with no objection from the director. His main gripe was with the heavy layers of makeup to age his face and body.
