Beyond Our Ken: Toe to toe with Ken Lo Like most fans of martial arts action cinema, I first became aware of Ken Lo (AKA Lo Wai-kong) due to his final reel duel with Jackie Chan in Drunken Master 2. In this fight, Lo displays his legendary 180 degree kick amid a display of boot work that harks back to the glory days of Korean bad guys Wong Jang Lee and Hwang In-shik. I actually met him on the set of that film. Back in the day, you could pretty much walk onto the Golden Harvest back lot unhindered and watch them shoot, and I used to do just that. -- Ip Man -- On his blog, Bey Logan mentions meeting Donnie Yen in Shanghai last month while the former was attending Shanghai International Film Festival. He says that Donnie Yen reveals that Sammo Hung, Ip Man's martial arts choreographer, will have a cameo in the film, which is on break now after having wrapped up its Shanghai filming.
The production is currently on a worldwide hunt for a suitable candidate to play young Bruce Lee before completing the last few scenes in Hong Kong where Yip Man, in his late years, takes in the adolescent Bruce Lee as his disciple.
Apart from Ip Man, Bey Logan drops a brief note on Tsui Siu Ming's upcoming wushu movie Champions (《夺标》 Duo Biao) which took part in Shanghai Film Festival. He also took pictures with Tsui Siu Ming and the cast Dicky Cheung, Xu Xiang Dong, Xie Miao.

-- Fist of Legend
-- I think the most eagerly
awaited upcoming Dragon Dynasty release is probably the long-awaited re-issue of Jet Li’s kung fu classic ‘Fist Of Legend’. An
earlier DVD edition of the film featured only the English dubbed American edit. Now we get the chance to give the DD
treatment to the last truly great kung fu film of the 90s wu shu wave. It was a great pleasure to sit down with an old
friend, director Gordon Chan, to shoot an exclusive video interview in which he discusses the genesis, development and
filming of Fist Of Legend.
For those new to the genre, Fist Of Legend is a palimpset of Bruce Lee’s Fist Of
Fury, a rich embellishment of an established text. It brought together a unique synthesis of Gordon Chan’s
story-telling, Yuen Woo-ping’s choreography and the charisma of action icon Jet Li. Bey Logan

-- Ice Cold in Hengdian: On location for Painted Skin --Painted Skin is based on a story by Pu Song-ling. The tales of supernatural horrors collected in his Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio have inspired numerous film adaptations, including the classic A Chinese Ghost Story (and its sequels), Li Han-hsiang’s Enchanting Shadow and King Hu’s Cannes award-winning A Touch Of Zen. Painted Skin (Hua Pi) was previously filmed by Fong Pao (in 1966) and again, in 1993, as the final film of King Hu. The current version is a Hong Kong-Chinese co-production, and its to the credit of director Gordon Chan’s script that the project was approved by the state censors, who tend to frown on stories focusing on ‘superstitious’ elements. -- Igniting Flashpoint: No Holds Barred with Donnie Yen -- We recorded an in-depth interview today with Donnie Yen, action director and star of the groundbreaking contemporary Asian actioner Flashpoint. The film will be getting a limited US theatrical release before its Dragon Dynasty DVD release. With Kill Zone (AKA SPL), our very first DD title!, Donnie established a new style of on-screen action, one that reflected his new passion for mix martial arts. Flashpoint takes this to a new level, with explosive results. The film just won Best Action at the prestigious Taiwanese Golden Horse awards, and has re-set the bar for contemporary martial arts movies. Bey Logan's Blog >>More<<

-- Bey Logan on Making of Dragon Squad -- Dragon Squad is one exciting action movie directed by Daniel Lee. Although not flawless, the film was interesting for its distinctive editing, a new approach to action and a mish-mash of local and international stars (Michael Biehn from Terminator).
