In an interview with The Bund, Donnie Yen describes the rendition of his role in Legend of Chen Zhen as an enhanced version of Bruce Lee's Chen Zhen, "The Chen Zhen that I'm portraying will carry traces of Bruce Lee's shadows, his sentiments, his deportment. I hope to pay tribute to him. At the same time, I'd also incorporate my own ideals, and fighting styles, you can say that this is Bruce Lee's Chen Zhen completely re-imagined, and elevated.
 
"That I also served as the martial arts director for Legend of Chen Zhen was because I'm more familiar with how Bruce Lee fought. Moreover, personally, I'm partial to Bruce Lee. It's very trying being a martial arts director, I didn't want to do it, but when many producers look for me, all of them want me to action direct, apart from acting.
 
"In today's market, there are only 2, 3 martial arts choreographers with real abilities, but they're all very busy. And, I, having a predilection for innovations, am game to try out bold, new things, it's even harder to look for someone like this. It's double the workload when you also work as the martial arts director, and you don't get a very high pay for it, certainly much less than being an actor, but for the sake of the film's final result, I would still take up the job."
 
Legend of Chen Zhen, starring Donnie Yen, Anthony Wong, Ryu Kohata, Chen Jia Jia, Shi Feng, Shu Qi, Huo Si Yan, has wrapped up filming in early February. Recently, CCTV aired an early preview footage from the film that has been uploaded and posted on Baidu forum.

Trailer for On His Majesty's Secret Service is now up on MTime.

The zany comedy directed by Wong Jing stars Louis Koo, Big S Barbie Hsu, Fan Siu Wong, Leung Kar Yan, Liu Yi Wei, Sandra Ng, Law Kar Ying, Chen Jia Jia, Sang Wei Lin, etc.

To play the ambitious eunuch who has been hiding his true abilities all the time and is planning to overthrow the throne, Fan Siu Wong has to act effeminate and also study other films like New Dragon Inn. And here's a video of him on the set he posted to his blog.

Having finished filming Plum Blossom Heroes TV series, Fan Siu Wong met up with Wilson Yip to discuss Yip Man 2. In order to look for his granny, his character Jin Shan Zhao heads for Hong Kong, and he and Yip Man would...

As shown in the trailer, imperial guard Louis Koo, despite being a poor fighter, would be using his cranky contraptions to stop the martial arts exponent Fan Siu Wong, often with surprising results.
 

Barbie Hsu, who was recently voted PETA's Sexiest Asian Vegetarian Woman for 2009, plays a swordswoman engaged to Louis Koo. Many, many years ago, when her dog fell sick and nearly died, Barbie Hsu switched to vegetarian diet to pray for its recovery, and has never looked back since then, “I think we should respect the life of all species, a dog, a person. Lives are equal, eating meat is like eating corpses to me, and it makes me feel sick and sad.”

On His Majesty's Secret Service opens in China and Hong Kong on August 6, 2009.

Production for Wong Jing's period comedy On His Majesty's Secret Service (Forbidden City Cop: Smart Doggie), starring Louis Koo, Barbie Hsu, Fan Siu Wong, Liu Yi Wei, Sandra Ng, Leung Kar Yan, Lam Tse Chong, Sang Wei Lin, Chen Jia Jia, Zheng Yi Tong etc., has just wrapped up. On His Majesty's Secret Service will be out on either July 30 or August 6, with sequels being planned if successful.

Inevitably, comparisons are being drawn to Forbidden City Cop with Stephen Chow. Wong Jing, who wrote the scripts for both, says that the two are completely different, "In the older version, Stephen Chow is a self-assured inventor, but in this one, Louis Koo is one with low self-esteem, and is not confident about his inventions. In Forbidden City Cop: Smart Dog, Louis Koo's character, Imperial Guard "Dog", will be somewhat similar to Stephen Chow in the original, where he's more into cranky inventions than martial arts and believes that technology will overcome latter. Xie Miao and Yaqi Talk about Legend of Shaolin Kungfu

 

《少林寺传奇》 A Legend of Shaolin Kungfu TV series, a trilogy directed by 都晓 Du Xiao, consists of  《乱世英雄》 Heroes in Troubled Times, 《十三棍僧救唐王》 Thirteen Warrior Monks and Prince Li Shimin, and  《十八小铜人》 Eighteen Arhats. A Legend of Shaolin Kung Fu I: Heroes in Troubled in Times is currently being aired in China to great success and high viewership ratings while the second part Thirteen Warrior Monks has begun production since January 2008.

 

It features an impressive cast consisting of veteran actors like 鲍国安 Bao Guo An, 午马 Wu Ma, 郭达 Guo Da, 王刚 Wang Gang, 吴京安 Wu Jing An, etc. and most importantly, large number of martial artists such as 计春华 Ji Chun Hua, 于承惠Yu Cheng Hui, 李渊 Li Yuan, 叶剑卫 Ye Jian Wei, 谢苗Xie Miao, 陈佳佳 Chen Jia Jia, 王雪 Wang Xue, 郭辉Guo Hui, 袁新东 Yuan Xin Dong, 阴海龙 Yin Hai Long, 刘子威 Liu Zi Wei etc. for the main leads and their opponents to deliver martial arts sequences that are jaw-droppingly realistic, beautiful, yet without being too violent, as choreographed by  程小东 Tony Ching Siu Tung. To add more colour to the series, 孙卉凝 Sun Hui Ning, 法提麦·雅琦 Yaqi Fatima, 乔乔 Qiao Qiao are invited to play the leading ladies.

After making brief appearances in Seven Swords, Fox Volant of Snowy Mountain, Legend of Shaolin Kungfu, Angela Chen Jia Jia lands a leading role in upcoming 31 episodes kungfu TV series 《董海川传奇》 Legend of Dong Hai Chuan, which is based on real-life events of Bagua Zhang (Eight Trigram Palm) founder Dong Hai Chuan from late Manchurian Dynasty. She will be playing the romantic interest of Dong Hai Chuan. Li Qi Long (aka Shi De Qiang, Tom Lee) will play the title role as young Dong Hai Chuan, while the fifth generation disciple of Eight Trigram Palm Wu Guang Yu will play middle-aged Dong Hai Chuan. Famous Bagua Zhang exponents Mou Jun Dong, Li Yun Long have also been invited to assist in coaching of Bagua Zhang.

《少林寺·断臂方丈》 Shaolin Temple: Broken-Armed Abbot (tentative), the first of 120 episodes 《少林寺传奇》 Shaolin Legends Trilogy drama serial will begin production on a CCTV soundstage in Hebei on June 1 and expects to be completed in October. Directed by Du Xiao with Ching Siu Tung as the martial arts director, the cast consists of such celebrities as Anthony Wong, Bao Guo An and Guo Da, and various wushu champions and martial artists, including Yu Cheng Hui, Ji Chun Hua, Xiao Miao, Li Yuan, Pan Yuan Jia, Ye Jian Wei, Wang Xiao Long, Chen Jia Jia (the female general in Seven Swords), etc.
