During the filming of Painted Skin in winter, the director and crew ignored the Chinese actress to help her get into character. Chinese actress Vicki Zhao had a miserable, really miserable winter in China late last year. The usually vivacious Zhao had been cast in the Hong Kong fantasy action film Painted Skin, as Peirong, the despairing wife of a general (Chen Kun) bewitched by a demonic temptress (Zhou Xun).

In the wake of Sichuan earthquake, leaving thousands dead, buried, buildings destroyed, roads blocked, with shortage of food and water supply, various Chinese celebrities have made donations and expressed their concerns for victims of the disaster. Wu Jing, currently filming in Hong Kong, is also worried about the safety of everyone, including his fans in the affected areas, hoping that they are fine, and tide over the calamity soon.
Jackie Chan and Emperor Entertainment's chairman Albert Yeung jointly donated 10m yuan. Jet Li's One Foundation sent 1m yuan immediately, and also started fund-raising activities for further relief efforts, collecting around 18.6m yuan so far. Jet Li is heading to the disaster areas on May 16 to render his help. Various other celebrities, including Donnie Yen, Gillian Chung, Zhao Wen Zhuo, Charlene Choi, Nicholas Tse, Zhang Guo Li, Zhang Ting, Eva Huang Sheng Yi, Andy Lau, Vicky Zhao Wei, Ruby Lin, and many more have also chipped in 100 thousand to 300 thousand yuan each.
Less than 2 weeks ago, Myanmar was devastated by cyclone. With one catastrophe following another, could these be early warnings of Earth being devoured? Donations can be made via One Foundation. -- Painted Skin -- After 2 1/2 months of filming, Painted Skin has wrapped up production on February 3. Post-production will start with making a rough edit before dubbing is done, while special effects will take 4 months to create. The scenes involving Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun and Chen Kun are primarily drama while those involving Donnie Yen, Sun Li, and Qi Yi Wu, who's playing a villainous reptile spirit, contain a fair bit of action. As an award-winning action director, Donnie Yen, being fully aware that having come thus far in martial arts choreography, it'll be very hard to make further breakthrough within a short period, hopes to portray a character that is different, to develop himself as an actor. However, he has not been given much chance in this area. Thus, Donnie Yen is very grateful to director Gordon Chan for giving him such an opportunity, frequently communicating with him, digging out his potential in acting. Donnie Yen also has a wonderful time working with his costars, saying that he has learned many things from them. He's full of praise for Zhou Xun's acting and has forged a close bond with Chen Kun. -- Painted Skin -- Painted Skin is wrapping up on Feb 2 or so and the production is currently spending two weeks to shoot the finale. Sun Li's role, as well as more of the plot, has been revealed. She comes from a family of exorcists and it's her onus to get rid of the fox vixen Zhou Xun. However, she's a bumbling neophyte with mediocre skills and nobody believes a word when she says that there is a fox spirit for she lacks concrete evidence, even though she has a demon detector. Sun Li also provides comic relief. While she carries an arsenal of talismans and magical devices with her all the time, finding the right item at the right time to deal with demons is a challenge.

-- Painted Skin / Skin Lover -- A little bit on the plot of Painted Skin has been revealed concerning the complicated relationships between the major characters. Owing to Chen Kun being besotted with another girl Zhou Xun, his wife Vicky Zhao Wei feels very hurt. Donnie Yen, who is secretly in love with his brother's wife, often comforts her, lending her a shoulder to cry on whenever she needs it. Donnie Yen feels sorry for his sister-in-law who's so gentle and kind, yet neglected by his brother. However, being a Taoist, he can only contain his feelings and restrain himself rather than openly declaring his love. Thus, he is very vexed by it. And the only one who is fully aware of the four-way eternal triangle and the real identity of Zhou Xun is a heroine Sun Li. Zhao Wei says that Painted Skin is a big departure from the original, "This is actually a romance, while there are ghosts, it's not that important, I'll be a virtuous wife." She says that the relationships are more complicated, with more people being involved too. The director approaches the film from a unique angle, and there'll be plenty of suspense. Peter Chan: Man of War The Straits Times, December 12, 2007 by Boon Chan "We cannot afford to waste our energy, time and money in killing. We have to spend our time and energy in love and in building peace. Because if we don’t stop the war right now, everyone knows we have no time for anything else. Maybe the winners in war and the losers in war may die sooner than the war ends, if our planet ends." Supreme Master Ching Hai |
Peter Chan's battle strategy to steer his new film from conventional period epics is to portray the gritty reality of 1850 China amid civil war.
A top drawer cast, a big-name director, a period epic with pulse-racing action sequences. The description applies equally to any number of films including Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower, and the upcoming Red Cliff and Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon. But this is filmmaker Peter Chan's The Warlords, a tale of three sworn brothers set against the tumultuous backdrop of epic battles and political intrigue.

-- Sha Po Lang -- Recently, director Wilson Yip was shooting a major battle and promotional trailer for Sha Po Lang 《杀破狼》, where police officer Donnie Yen fights the crimelord Sammo Hung. Despite several takes, Wilson Yip was never satisfied with a certain portion of the scene. Eventually, without consulting with the martial arts director Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung impromptuly allowed an elbow jab from Donnie Yen to land squarely on his right cheek, and resulting in the shot which the director had wanted to achieve.
This came as a great shock to all the cast and crew on the set, including Simon Yam, who took their hats off to Sammo Hung for such work ethics and professionalism. Donnie Yen felt very bad about it, kept apologising to Sammo Hung. On being interviewed, Sammo Hung said that during their exchange, he felt that he was not necessarily faster than Donnie Yen, in order to achieve the best result, he sacrificed being hit without notifying the other party beforehand. He said, "You might think that I got hit, but actually it wasn't so. Otherwise, how could I be a senior in the industry?". On recent spate of news regarding celebrities involved in drag-taking, Sammo Hung said we should treasure ourselves and not take drugs. In his times, practically no one bothered about the drugs. The female lead for the movie is a new Mainland actress Liang Jing Ke, a younger schoolmate of Vicky Zhao Wei and Zhang Ziyi. She plays Sammo Hung's wife. Apple Daily
