-- Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2: 13 Cudgel Monks -- On 9 July, Legend of Shaolin Kungfu director Du Xiao, joined by cast members Bao Guo An, Ji Chun Hua, Xie Miao, Sun Hui Ning, attended a chat organised by Sina, whereby they shared their experiences on the set of the 40-part TV series.
A 12-minute trailer to the upcoming Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2, starring Yuen Biao, Li Yuan, Xie Miao, Leung Kar Yan, Ji Chun Hua, Xu Xiang Dong, Sun Hui Ning, Wu Ma, etc. was also shown then and may now be viewed on Sina. Based on the trailer, which is interspersed with excerpts from the original from 8th minute onwards, Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2 looks to be of bigger scale and even more epic. However, being an unfinished product, it's too early to tell if the martial arts scenes would live up to expectations of the original. Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2 is currently in post-production with a targeted release by early 2009.

-- Ip Man -- On his blog, Bey Logan mentions meeting Donnie Yen in Shanghai last month while the former was attending Shanghai International Film Festival. He says that Donnie Yen reveals that Sammo Hung, Ip Man's martial arts choreographer, will have a cameo in the film, which is on break now after having wrapped up its Shanghai filming.
The production is currently on a worldwide hunt for a suitable candidate to play young Bruce Lee before completing the last few scenes in Hong Kong where Yip Man, in his late years, takes in the adolescent Bruce Lee as his disciple.
Apart from Ip Man, Bey Logan drops a brief note on Tsui Siu Ming's upcoming wushu movie Champions (《夺标》 Duo Biao) which took part in Shanghai Film Festival. He also took pictures with Tsui Siu Ming and the cast Dicky Cheung, Xu Xiang Dong, Xie Miao.

-- Duo Biao -- 《夺标》 Duo Biao's martial arts choreography, which is 70% traditional and 30% innovation, shows the art of attack and defence of traditional Chinese kungfu, while carrying modern elements at the same time. Tsui Siu Ming and his team also dissected every move in the film, in order to spark sufficient interests from the jaded audiences.
3 months before filming, Dicky Cheung was dragged to Hengdian for training, and the director specifically assigned a martial arts expert to watch over him practising Praying Mantis Boxing as well as retraining in wireworks.
However, even martial artists like Xu Xiang Dong and Xie Miao were not spared of training.

-- Duo Biao -- 《夺标》 Duo Biao, co-produced by Sundream and Huayi Brothers, directed by Tsui Siu Ming, has wrapped up after over two months of filming. The martial arts film is slated for release this autumn.
Duo Biao is set in 1936 when China sent 69 athletes to take part in Berlin Olympics. At the same time 9 wushu team members also performed there. While China didn't do very well back then, her wushu performance greatly impressed the Westerners. And it was then that Chinese wushu was spread throughout the world. Tsu Siu Ming hopes to show the spirit and culture of wushu through this film, with emphasis on realistic and detailed portrayal of traditional martial arts.

-- Legend of Shaolin Kungfu II: Thirteen Cudgel Monks -- Jimmy Lin plays a supporting role as Prince Li Shimin in Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2, one who puts the welfare of the populace above everything else. In actual life, Jimmy Lin has been involved in many charity activities.
孙卉凝 Sun Hui Ning, who plays the leading lady Wang Yu Feng, the daughter of Wang Shi Chong (Leung Kar Yan). She's Wang Shi Chong's only child. Beautiful, cold, aloof, intractable. Many years back, Wang Shi Chong sacrificed his wife in order to save his own skin. This has an ill-effect on Wang Yu Feng, resulting in her lack of trust in men. To make up for his guilt, Wang Shichong especially dotes on her, so, she grows up becoming very wilful, bold and impudent, fears nothing, and does whatever she wants. The only person she trusts and loves single-heartedly is her childhood playmate Zhang Tian Bao (Xie Miao), who, once, saved her from a freezer room at his own expense. However, she's torn between kinship and love as her father is responsible for the deaths of Zhang Tian Bao's entire family.
Sun Huining is a devout Buddhist in real life. Studying Buddhist sutras is perhaps her only hobby, for she can learn many meaningful things and also it has a calming effect. As a vegetarian, she says, "It takes ages before a life is born, why kill for one's own selfish desires? Imagine if you were the animal being killed for food... Let's start a vegetarian diet." Jimmy Lin concurs, "The lives of animals must be respected. We must show love towards the little animals, we should respect life, and treasure resources."
The United Nations reports have stated livestock are top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems. Raising animals for food is a primary cause of land degradation, air pollution, water shortage, water pollution, loss of biodiversity, and not least of all, global warming.
Both of them echo similar sentiments on environmental issues, saying that we must do our best to protect the planet. At the behest of Sun Hui Ning to reflect his thinking on environmental care, Jimmy Lin writes, "Love and care for the environment, do it from the heart" and adds that we must not neglect the minor things around us, for every little things that you do count towards helping the planet, this is the responsibility of everyone. Have Perseverance, Will Succeed 李渊 Li Yuan was born on August 7, 1982 in Shangdong to an impecunious peasant family of over 10 members, at the time when Jet Li's Shaolin Temple took the nation by storm. Growing up being a fan of martial arts films, Li Yuan started formal training in martial arts at the age of 12. When he was in primary 4, he made a bold decision to quit school in order to learn wushu. He was subsequently punished by his parents. But on considering that he wasn't doing very well in his academic studies, Li Yuan's parents finally relented.
Li Yuan was raised mostly by his wushu champion brother 李炳雷 Li Bing Lei, who also teaches him martial arts. Li Bing Lei is 8 years his senior. Li Yuan was brought up under very strict upbringing, and he matured earlier than most people. In his youth, he got only one rest day on Lunar New Year; on other days, he would train for four to five hours daily. There were times when thoughts of skiving did occur to Li Yuan, but on thinking of how hard his parents were toiling in the fields in his hometown, even in bitter winters, Li Yuan cast aside all weariness.

-- Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2: Thirteen Warrior Monks -- Li Yuan used his resting time to put together this little clip, in order to reward friends who have been supporting him - the editing is somewhat disjointed compared to the previous encounter but the choreography by Yuen Bun is rock solid as ever. This scene was shot over two nights. Note that this not the complete scene - the camcorder ran out of batteries halfway - and neither is this the actual production footage.
Prior to the appearance of Xie Miao, Li Yuan has always considered himself as some of the best fighters around. Yet, Xie Miao shatters his dreams utterly. Ji Chun Hua, as Wang Ren Zhe, joins in later to fend off Xie Miao. But why are Li Yuan and Xie Miao are fighting most of the time. This is but a minor part of the script. Their relationships are quite interesting and intricately intertwined - and can be easily surmised if you've been following updates on Legend of Shaolin Kungfu II: Thirteen Warrior Monks. Li Yuan says the positive comments on his blog serve as an encouragement to him, magically removing his past few days of fatigue. He says that he'd put his best foot forward in every scene, striving to bring an even more exciting sequel to everyone. Video may be viewed at Li Yuan's Blog. A few new photos have also surfaced on the blogs of Xie Miao and Sun Hui Ning, one of which indicates that Leung Kar Yan is part of the cast too, playing the antagonist Wang Shi Chong, while Sun Hui Ning her daughter who's in love with Xie Miao.

-- Legend of Shaolin Kungfu 2: Thirteen Warrior Monks -- Li Yuan Plays Wang Ren Yi, Wang Shi Chong's adopted son, whose father's death was actually caused by Wang Shi Chong and he's but a tool trained by Wang Shi Chong to help him get rid of dissidents. Unaware of all these, and being covetous of his daughter as well as blinded by fame and power, Wang Ren Yi serves Wang Shi Chong with undivided loyalty, killing anyone who stands in his way.
In this demanding scene, Li Yuan is pursuing Xie Miao, who plays Zhang Tian Bao, whose whole family was framed by Wang Shi Chong and massacred. Zhang Tian Bao manages to escape and masters the art of darts throwing under the tutelage of Ghostly Hand, and returns to avenge for his family.
This scene was shot in four days during Lunar New Year. The production did not even get a break during the important festive season to the Chinese. The director is very particular about this sene, so it's quite taxing for both Li Yuan and Xie Miao. A makeup artist helped capture this scene on video. It's later put together by both Li Yuan and Xie Miao.
You may view the video at Li Yuan's blog.
