-- Dragon Tiger Gate -- At a test screening held in Changchun on June 5, the cinema operators favoured Dragon Tiger Gate over all other films shown, including such major Hollywood movies as Mission Impossible 3 and Superman Returns. They were bowled over by heart-stopping action scenes and lavish sets, saying that this movie is at the peak of martial arts films, believing that it will be a big hit this year. Believed to inject brand new elements to the genre, the fight scenes, choreographed by Donnie Yen, are said to tax the limits of the actors and express high level of realism yet never lacking in imagination. Dragon Tiger Gate, which is about the three highly skilled fellow disciples who fight bravely against evil in order to uphold justice, is directed by Wilson Yip, and stars Donnie Yen, Li Xiao Ran, Dong Jie, Shi Xing Yu, Yuen Wah, Chen Kuan Tai, Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue. -- Taichi TV Series -- Production of Taichi TV series has begun without much fanfare (being a closed set) in January. Following the positive response from their Wing Chun based Real Kung Fu TV series starring Yuen Biao, Leung Kar Yan, Yuen Wah, TVB again engaged another martial arts star to play the leading role of Wu Ma. This time round, it's Zhao Wen Zhuo and apparently, TVB had this series tailor-made for him. Taichi is set in the early 1900s and tells of how Wu Ma, through the practice of Taichi, gains an understanding of the philosophy of using gentleness to counter hard-hitting moves. And all these would not be complete without TVB usual dosage of the protagonist's multiple romantic interests. Other cast members include Raymond Lam and Myolie Wu. Nanfang News

What's Eating Stephen Chow The Straits Times, 21 December 2004 Hong Xinyi
Lauded as a comedian extraordinaire, the Hong Kong Superstar, here to promote Kung Fu Hustle, is surprisingly serious in person, as Hong Xinyi finds out.
Hey, What's So Funny?
Hong Kong's King of Comedy prefers martial arts to making people laugh... serious.
He has been tickly your funny bone as Hong Kong's comedian extraordinaire for the past 15 years. But if you ask him, what Stephen Chow really wants to do is flaunt his prowess as a martial arts expert. In town yesterday with some of his co-stars to promote his latest film Kung Fu Hustle, Stephen chow, 42, displayed little of his screen persona's mischievous irreverence. The cheekiness evident from his starring role in 1990s All for The Winner to 2001 blockbuster hit Shaolin Soccer was noticeably absent.

-- Seven Swords of Mt Tian -- When Tsui Hark went ahead with his adaptation for the Seven Swords of Mt Tian, many new elements were introduced, including four brand new characters that will be cameoed by the key production members. Callous, Vicious, Devious and Shameless, known collectively as The Four Perils of the Underworld, are being played respectively by martial arts director Yuen Bun, director Clarence Fok, a production manager, and producer Wang Yong. Among The Four Perils, Callous possesses the most sublime skills and hence, the choice for Yuen Bun, who hails from the same Peking opera troupe as Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan, Yuen Wah et al. To commemorate his first role in a TV series, Tsui Hark has crafted a special weapon for Yuen Bun, a weapon that only Yuen Bun is able to wield. The character Wang Yong is playing always carries a rose in the hand and is often ridiculed by others due to his flowery behaviour. Business Times

On December 2, novelist Liang Yusheng, who is over 80 years of age, was appointed by Hong Kong's Lingnan University to be its Honorary Professor. He received congratulations from both the movie and TV productions of The Seven Swords, as well as from many of his fans. He said that he won't be publishing any new works and for the time being, would not be revising his past wuxia novels. He expressed confidence in both adaptations of Seven Swords of Mt Tian. While he has not been in direct contact with Tsui Hark, he has, since pre-production stages, a very thorough knowledge of the progress of both productions, as his close friend Cheung Sing Yim and him often keep touch with each other, keeping him updated of the filming status. In the meantime, plans are being made to proceed with the shooting of the second half of Seven Swords of Mt Tian TV series as well as the second instalment of The Seven Swords film hexaology sometime next year.
